The Voluntrix is a volunteer database maintenance and management
application developed by Prasanna Ranganathan in JAVA.
Although there are many volunteer organizations
that are extraordinarily large, and rival even major corporations,
there are many more volunteer organizations that consists of only
a handful of people – yet make a massive difference in their
communities. These organizations often work on a tight budget and
this issue becomes a major factor in managing it’s volunteers. It
goes without saying the volunteers are the lifeblood of any
volunteer organization; therefore, if a small volunteer
organization cannot manage volunteers efficiently and
economically, it could find itself in a precarious position. Since
these volunteer organizations are often under funded, purchasing a
descent data entry, sorting, retrieval, and storage program to
monitor their volunteer’s actions is very unlikely.
This is
where the Voluntrix... a free volunteer database management
program comes into play.
Since the Voluntrix was developed as a dossier project for the
International Baccalaureate's Computer Science Higher Level
Program, a significant amount of documentation has been prepared.
This documentation can be observed below, and can be viewed as an
HTML file or as a PDF. In addition to this, the source code for
this application as well as the executable jar file can be
downloaded from this site.
